Ziimara
Eco-chic luxury handbags crafted from repurposed textile.
London, England, United Kingdom
Ziimara is a combination of two Swahili words:
Mzima & Imara - Complete & Stability
We envision a future where we treat our ecosystems and communities with care, like the indigenous, harmonious ways of so many before us.
We create beautiful, thoughtful pieces consciously and slowly, collaborating with artisans across Kenya. Their master craftsmanship allows us to share inspired traditions and cultures evolving, reimagining traditional crafts in contemporary design. All the while, our pieces are made with repurposed material, transforming waste textile into something wonderful.
Sustainability is at the heart of what we do. All our bags are made using waste material, with deadstock and offcuts being the primary source of fabric. The reinforcement is made using recycled felt and even our zippers are made using recycled PET and brass. Our hardware is also handcrafted using recycled brass.
We use small-batch, slow production, with several elements being handcrafted by artisans across Kenya.
All our packaging is recyclable. Where possible, we use packaging that is made from recycled material e.g. recycled tissue paper and recycled boxed.
